Livestock
The Monmouthshire Show attracts up to 300 cattle, 800 sheep and 100 goats from across
the regions. Many animals have already graced the rings of other County and Royal
Shows and proved themselves to be amongst the top livestock in the country.
As an open show, classes cater for most breeds. The Monmouthshire Show has been
chosen by The Welsh Longhorn Breeders Club to be their official Autumn Show. A short
description and history of the breeds appears in the Official Show Programme and
Catalogue.
The committee of the Monmouthshire Show are grateful to the owners and handlers
of the magnificent animals attending the show for the effort that they put in to
display their livestock in top class condition.
Regrettably it is the livestock section of the show that suffers the most with
the seemingly constant threats of Foot and Mouth, TB, and Blue Tongue to name
but a few hardships that appear to cast a black cloud over farming. Any measures
dictated by DEFRA are managed without fuss to enable centuries of tradition to
continue.
