With the Monmouthshire Show joining in the celebrations of the Centenary of the death of Charles Rolls in 2010, much of the entertainment will, this year be focussing on his life, his family connections with the Show Society and his involvement with flight and engineering.

Between the years 1897 and 1920 the Show was held at Rockfield on land owned by Lord Llangattock (John A Rolls, and father to Charles) who was President of the Society until 1910 when his eldest son, John S Rolls, brother to Charles, took the role. It is nice to think that the young Charles will have spent his early happy days at the Show!

To this end the main event of the day will be an aerobatic display of vintage aircraft including two Tiger Moths and a Stearman Biplane with the possibility of other visitors! As usual this will take place above the showground at 2.30 p.m. just before the Grand Parade of livestock in the ring. This will, incidentally, also be the centenary of this parade as according to the History of the Show, in 1910 “The parade of prize winners in the ring was described as a great attraction!”
